Systemic enzyme supplements work directly in the body after they are absorbed in the small intestine, and are not intended to aid in digestion. Consequently, these enzymes can be utilized to assist the body's various regulatory and communications systems.
After the enzymes are absorbed, protease molecules can bind with molecules found within the blood including a -2-macroglobulin, resulting in the formulation of an a-2-macroglobulinprotease complex. This newly formed complex alters the molecular configuration of the a-2-macroglobulin molecule which results in a change in its affinity to bind certain cytokines. Once a cytokine is bound to the protease, the entire complex is able to be eliminated from the body, allowing normal cytokine balance and immune function to be maintained (Figures 1 and 2).
Wobenzym® PS can help to support healthy joints and muscles, and support the immune system as well as normal wound healing processes. Wobenzym® PS tablets are enteric coated to ensure that the enzymes are protected and are not broken down in the stomach.
